Dallas Mavericks fans were excited about Josh Reaves’ performance during summer league. It earned the undrafted rookie a two-way contract with the Mavs.

The Dallas Mavericks were one of the surprise teams in Las Vegas. They did not have a first round pick, but their defensive-minded group played well. The Mavs won three games during summer league. They qualified for the tournament before falling in the quarterfinals.

Josh Reaves was a massive part of that success. The undrafted wing out of Penn State played exceptionally well. He did a bit of everything in Vegas. Reaves averaged 12.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 block in 23.5 minutes per game. The team got a glimpse of Reaves’ 3-and-D wing potential.

Reaves earns two-way deal

The Mavericks signed Josh Reaves to a two-way contract on July 29. They have now changed both two-way players for next season. Reaves and Antonius Cleveland replaced Daryl Macon and Kostas Antetokounmpo for the positions.

Fans should remember that a two-way contract means a player will spend most of the season in the G-League with the Texas Legends. They are allowed to spend a maximum of 45 days in the NBA.

Reaves just turned 22 years old in June. He could use some time in the G-League to develop.  Reaves was a standout defender in college but hit just 32.4 percent of his 3-pointers over his four-year career. His shooting improved during his last two seasons. It is still not a finished product, though.

Mavs fans are excited about Josh Reaves. They liked what they saw in summer league and want to see more.

The Dallas Mavericks have just one more contract to handout this offseason. Their 15th and final roster spot is still open. The team has yet to sign second round draft pick Isaiah Roby. He appears to be the leading candidate for the deal.
