Dallas Mavericks: Luka Doncic dunk ranked 12th best in NBA last year

The NBA has been ranking the top 20 dunks of the 2018-19 season and Dallas Mavericks rookie sensation, Luka Doncic, landed at No. 12 with his posterizing dunk on the Denver Nuggets big men.

NBA Dunk Week is officially a thing and the NBA social media sites have been going at it since Monday. One of the ways they have been celebrating is by counting down the top 20 dunks from the 2018-19 NBA season. On that list, you’ll find Dallas Mavericks guard, Luka Doncic, throwing it down over the entire city of Denver.

Let’s not kid ourselves here, Mavs fans know that this dunk is criminally underrated by the NBA on this list. Go ahead, look through the rest of the top 20 dunks up to this point. See anyone else dunking on two guys taller than them? I didn’t think so.

Now let’s take a look at the clock and the scoreboard. The only other player throwing it down with less than a minute to play is Joel Embiid on dunk No. 19. Luka hit Denver with everything he had while the Mavs were down by 1 and under a minute to play.

I think it is safe to say that the NBA was not looking at context when they posted these dunks in order. Visually, Luka’s jam was incredible but fairly ranked with some of these posters other players have put down. A lot of that is due to the difference in raw athleticism. However, no dunk can compare to the timing of Luka’s.

Luka gave Mavs fans some really exciting moments last season and this dunk was just one of them. The rookie sensation took over the league quickly and is ready to get even better this coming year. Hoepfully Mason Plumlee and Paul Millsap have recovered since this game.

Even though the Mavs still ended up losing this contest, Luka Doncic threw down one of the nastiest dunks in Dallas Mavericks history.
