The Dallas Mavericks have a good team this year that fans should be excited for and a lot of that is thanks to Luka Doncic, the Wonderboy who can do it all. According to Vegas odds, Luka is tied for 8th in betting odds for this year’s MVP award.

It did not take long for Luka Doncic to make a believer out of all the Dallas Mavericks fans and it didn’t take much longer for him to make a believer out of everyone else. Luka is the reigning Rookie of the Year and was two bad voters away from winning the award unanimously. That unanimous vote was deserved based on what he was able to do in his first season in the NBA.

So many people have been wrong about Luka it’s scary, but the fact is that if more people had been right about him, there’s a chance that he could be doing what he’s doing in Phoenix or Sacramento. We here in Dallas are thankful for how much he was overlooked.

The odds makers in Las Vegas are among the group that has recognized just how good Luka Doncic is and is going to be. The initial MVP odds that have been released have Luka tied for the 8th best odds with Nikola Jokic at +1600. Jokic was in the top 5 in voting just last year.

The only players currently sitting ahead of Luka are Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid. This puts Luka ahead of players such as Damian Lillard, Paul George, Russell Westbrook, Kyrie Irving and Kemba Walker.

NBA experts will probably believe this is a longshot, but many, including myself, believe that Luka is poised to take a big step forward with a better supporting cast and another star to play with this year. Luka’s play style is very similar to LeBron’s which NBA analysts and voters love. His ability to play the point forward role effectively is going to do well in the voting.

Add that to his likable nature and his ability to already get into the national eye with his time at All-Star weekend last year. Add that to the fact that only one rookie has been able to do what he did last year, statistically, and you have a guy ready for a big step forward in his game.

Luka is obviously loved in Dallas and we expect great things from him this year. The addition of Kristaps Porzingis is going to help Luka in a lot of ways and hurt him in some when it comes to individual awards. That’s alright, we would rather see a successful team than just a successful Luka.

Next. Kristaps Porzingis and Luka Doncic are a perfect pair

This will be a great year for all the Mavs fans that can move forward from the apparent meltdown that was experienced this summer. I guess I was watching something different than everyone else, but that’s alright. I now have full authority to be optimistic about the upcoming season without any blowback from comments made in the summer. Luka for 2020 MVP.
