With the NBA season finished, the Luka Doncic vs. Trae Young debate over and free agency taking over the league, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what next year will look like for the Dallas Mavericks.

Now I may not have been doing this for a while, but the Texas Legends on draft night decided to have a contest which involved predicting what the Dallas Mavericks would do with their second round draft pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Since I was the only one to correctly predict the draft night trade, I feel absolutely qualified to predict the 2019-20 season for the Dallas Mavericks.

The easiest prediction I can make about the upcoming season is that the Dallas Mavericks will easily make the playoffs. That is not something I say lightly whatsoever, but with teams like Golden State being dismantled for a majority of the year and Houston just being dysfunctional in general, it’s easy to say the West will see a shift in power in the upcoming season and the Dallas Mavericks will be positively impacted.

Now if I were to go in deeper into my season prediction, I would say that it would be realistic for this team to start off a little bit rocky. Hold me to this if you would like, but the Mavs will be at .500 after the first 10 games.

The reason I say this is because even though we will finally have our long awaited duo of Porzingis and Doncic, I think both players will utilize that time to feel each other out. Doncic is a young player who seems destined for stardom, which means it’s likely that he may overdo it to start the season. Porzingis will not be at the top of his game either. After a season and a half of not playing, it’s highly unlikely he is at his best in the first few games.

After the predicted 5-5 start, I believe the Mavericks will find their rhythm. In fact I believe in the months of December and January, the Mavericks will only lose 3 total games. I totally understand the eye rolls I’m sure to have just earned with that statement, however I truly do believe this next season will be better than most are anticipating.

By the time the All-Star break rolls around, the Dallas Mavericks will hold the number 3 seed in the west, only short of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Utah Jazz. The All-Star roster coming out of the west will include either Porzingis or Doncic, not both of them.

It may seem that I am predicting a perfect season for the Mavericks, so let me even it out by stating that I believe they will experience a drop in the standings in the second half of the season. This is a young team, and usually when there is early success, it’s easy to say the team will get a little complacent waiting for the playoffs to begin. This is exactly why I am predicting the Dallas Mavericks finishing in the 5th spot in the West.

This is truly an exciting time to be an MFFL, after all, we do have an exciting duo to build around. I have all the confidence in the world that the correct steps will be taken to get us playoff bound next season.

Does this mean I think the Mavericks will be able to pull off a deep playoff run? Well to be honest with you, regardless of what the team looks like I’m always predicting the Mavericks to win it all, but for the sake of realism; I’m predicting the Mavericks to make it to the second round.

Like I’ve said, this is going to be a great year for the Dallas Mavericks and I’m excited to see how accurate my predictions turn out to be. I do feel the need to also stress that this is all opinion based, and i have no idea how the free agency will turn out for the Mavericks, but as a fan I always remain hopeful for the best.
