Dallas Mavericks fans wanted the front office to sign a free agent center. The Mavs agreed to a two-year deal with Boban Marjanovic on July 3.

The Dallas Mavericks added another piece on Wednesday. They agreed to a two-year deal worth $7 million with free agent center Boban Marjanovic, according to Marc Stein and Tim MacMahon. The signing cannot be finalized until July 6.

Marjanovic stands 7’3 and is one of the tallest players in the NBA. He split time between the Clippers and Sixers last season. Marjanovic averaged 7.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks in 11.7 minutes per game. He produced outstanding per-36 minute numbers. Marjanovic shot 61.5 percent from the field and 74.8 percent on his free throws.

The center is a numbers darling, but it will be interesting to see how much playing time Boban can earn in Dallas. Kristaps Porzingis, Dwight Powell, and Maxi Kleber figure to be ahead of him in the big man pecking order. Marjanovic will share the court with those players too. It will be interesting to see if he plays more than Salah Mejri did in the 2018-2019 season.

Marjanovic needs to play in the correct matchups. He does well against big traditional centers, but floor spacing fives can roast Boban. The Mavericks will be forced to limit his minutes against certain teams.

Marjanovic’s rebounding will be a significant help. He is a fun player to watch as well. Here is Marjanovic’s must-see highlight tape.

Mavs cap space

Mavericks supporters are always intrigued how a signing impacts their ability to sign other targets. ESPN’s Bobby Marks notes that the Boban Marjanovic signing could have zero impact on the Mavs cap space because his deal could come out of the mid-level exception once Dallas exhausts their available money.

The Dallas Mavericks are targeting Danny Green. There are a few other notable free agents that could interest Dallas as they try to improve to push for the playoffs in 2020. Mavericks fans should stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest analysis and news on the team’s free agency.
