The Dallas Mavericks did not get started until the second round, but they made one trade and one selection in the 2019 NBA Draft. See all their moves here.
The Dallas Mavericks saw an opportunity in the 2019 NBA Draft, and they took it. Dallas had their man on the board when the second round pick they owned came up. The Pistons were offering three picks, though. Dallas took a gamble their man would still be available. It paid off.
Here is a look at the Dallas Mavericks results from the 2019 NBA Draft.
First round pick (10th overall)- Traded to Hawks
The Mavericks did not hold this selection for long. They made it top-five protected in last draft night’s Luka Doncic trade with the Atlanta Hawks. The moment it fell at ten in the lottery, the Hawks were owners of the selection.
Atlanta went on to draft Cam Reddish out of Duke with the pick.
Second round (37th overall)- Traded to Pistons
The Dallas Mavericks traded this pick to the Detroit Pistons. According to Marc Stein, the Mavs received the 45th overall pick in 2019 and two second rounders in upcoming drafts.
The front office decided on trading back to add a few future assets. That can often be a smart move, especially in the second round.
Second round (45th overall)- Drafted Isaiah Roby- F- Nebraska
Technically, the Detroit Pistons selected Isaiah Roby, but he will be a Maverick on July 6. Trades cannot be finalized until the NBA’s Moratorium ends.
Roby is known for his defensive abilities. The forward should be able to guard multiple positions. He can also handle the ball a bit. Roby needs to work on his jumper to unlock his full potential.
GM Donnie Nelson had to choose his words wisely but seemed quite pleased with how the events unfolded for the Dallas Mavericks. See his comments here.
The Smoking Cuban will have all the draft content fans desire. The shift to free agency is also taking place. The rumors will continue flying until players can agree to deals on June 30. Mavs supporters can read it all here, so check back daily.
