Dallas Mavericks center Salah Mejri is committed to working on his outside shooting this summer in an effort to expand his game. Get the latest here.
Dallas Mavericks fans have a lot on their plate this time of year. The draft is less than a week away (June 20), free agency kicks off on June 30, and they are also trying to monitor the improvements of current Mavs. Plenty will be written about all three this summer.
Mavericks center Salah Mejri is coming off a season where playing time was sparse. Despite being healthy, he only appeared in 36 games and averaged just 11.1 minutes a night in those contests. Mejri played more the two previous years and was disappointed with his role this season.
The seven-footer is already putting in the work this offseason to earn more playing time in the 2019-2020 season. Here is a look at what Salah Mejri is doing.
Plenty of threes
Dwain Price of Mavs.com caught up with Mejri to discuss his offseason workout routine. Fans can read the entire article here.
Mejri discusses at length his commitment to developing a 3-point shot for next season. That should not be a surprise. Modern NBA teams love pace and space. The Mavericks were fourth in the NBA during the 2018-2019 season with 36.6 3-point attempts per game. They only attempted 86.9 field goals each night. Every player on the court has to be a willing shooter to keep that percentage up.
Mejri hit 11 of his 34 this season. He appears locked in on improving them this summer as well. Do not be surprised to see him launching plenty of threes during the 2019-2020 campaign.
Staying in Dallas?
Salah Mejri is an unrestricted free agent this summer. He expressed his desire to remain with the Mavericks in his exit interview which fans can see below.
Mejri has been working out at the Mavs facility, but there is no guarantee they bring him back for another season. His close relationship with Luka Doncic is a positive, but the front office may find a better fit in free agency. Monitor the situation as the dominos begin to fall this summer.
Final thoughts
Dallas Mavericks center Salah Mejri is committed to developing a consistent 3-point shot this offseason. He is in the gym working hard to make it a reality next season.
Mejri will have a busy offseason. Not only will be trying to improve his game and deciding his future in free agency, but Mejri will be playing for Tunisia in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. The tournament takes place from Aug. 31 to Sept. 15 in China. Tunisia is in Group C with Spain, Iran, and Puerto Rico. The Mej is a key part of their team and figures to play significant minutes.
