Dallas Mavericks Rumor: Woj says Mavs are interested in Kemba Walker
By Tyler Watts
Dallas Mavericks fans are hoping the team can sign an All-Star in free agency. Find out how ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski linked the Mavs and Kemba Walker.
Dallas Mavericks fans are expecting action this summer. The team has cap space to spend. The Mavs also want to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
The team has Luka Doncic to build around. The 20-year-old is coming off one of the best rookie seasons in NBA history. He appears ready to take the jump into All-Stat status in year two.
The front office traded for Kristaps Porzingis to be the second star. The 7’3 big man sat out all last season as he recovered from a torn ACL. He looks healthy and ready to play now, though.
The Mavericks are searching for those final pieces that can push them into the playoff picture. They look focused on All-Star talents first and will work down from there until they fill the roster. Here is the latest rumor surrounding the organization.
Woj names interested teams in Kemba
ESPN ran a mock draft special on Tuesday evening. The program was filled with a plethora of juicy details including Adrian Wojnarowski naming the teams he believes will be interested in Kemba Walker.
Woj pinpointed the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and New York Knicks as the teams in on the All-Star point guard.
The Hornets may have the last laugh, though. Walker is eligible for a supermax extension after making the All-NBA team this season. That means only Charlotte can offer 5 years and $221.3 million.
No surprise
The Mavericks have been linked to Kemba for months now. When Woj reports it, fans have a bit more faith in the rumor, though.
Walker would be a fantastic addition to the Mavs. He gives them a third player capable of scoring 20 points every night. Kemba is a four-time All-Star and All-NBA performer for a reason. Adding him would improve any team.
Final thoughts
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski lists the Dallas Mavericks as one of three interested teams in Kemba Walker. The Lakers and Knicks both figure to push hard for his services as well. Each can offer a larger market. Los Angeles has the lure of LeBron James, and the Knicks can offer another max contract in free agency. Walker has put the Hornets in the lead, but expect plenty of interest until he signs his new deal.
The Mavericks have a backup plan if they miss out on Kemba. The front office may opt to sign multiple pieces over one star. Expect the Mavs to kick the tires on a lot of free agents this summer.
