The Dallas Mavericks are scheduled to play a regular season game against the Detroit Pistons in Mexico City during the 2019-20 NBA season. This will be one of two games scheduled in Mexico this year.

The NBA continues its push to make basketball more accessible around the world as there are two games scheduled to take place in Mexico City in the 2019-20 season. One of those games will feature the Dallas Mavericks taking on the Detroit Pistons. The other game will have the Phoenix Suns taking on the San Antonio Spurs.

The Mavs and Pistons will play each other on December 12th. This will be the 29th NBA regular season game played in Mexico City. This is also the fourth consecutive year that the NBA will have two games in Mexico City in the same year.

The teams chosen to play in these games will present a unique market for the NBA, but none more so than the Mavericks. Dallas has a unique number of players who are fluent in the Spanish language, but even more than that, they have legitimate stars of the league that will be able to communicate with the fans and the media at this game.

Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis are both fluent in Spanish. Each of them played in the Spanish league before coming to the NBA and we have seen both of them answer various media questions in Spanish without hesitation. Add that to J.J. Barea and Salah Mejri who both also speak Spanish and the Mavs are kind of an anomaly in the league.

Seeing a guy like Luka who can speak the native language and is also likely the highest sold jersey among these two teams should give a huge marketing opportunity to both the NBA and the organizations who have worked to create this opportunity.

Next. Dwight Powell to accept player option and sign extension

This unique Dallas Mavericks opportunity is going to be a cool one for Dallas and for all involved with the game. More information will be available going forward from the Dallas Mavericks and the NBA.
