Dallas Mavericks guard Daryl Macon did not get a ton of minutes this season, but that did not stop him from producing a few worthy highlights.
The Dallas Mavericks signed Daryl Macon last offseason to a two-way contract. The rookie went undrafted, but showed off his talents during summer league. Adding a young 23-year-old scorer did wonders for the Texas Legends. Macon averaged 19 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game in the G-League this season.
Unfortunately, Macon’s playing time in Dallas was sparse. Being a point guard, he began the season behind Dennis Smith Jr., J.J. Barea, and Jalen Brunson. Even after the Barea injury and the trades, Macon had to steal minutes away from Luka Doncic and Brunson. That is why he saw only 90 minutes during the entire season.
Highlight video
That limited playing time did not stop Daryl Macon from producing a few must-see highlights, though. The Mavs official Twitter sent out a video of Macon’s top plays on May 29 which fans can enjoy below.
He signed a two-year deal, so Macon is back with the Mavericks next season. His year will start in July with the Las Vegas Summer League. Expect Macon to play significant minutes for the Mavs team in that tournament.
He needs to improve his shooting and shot selection to take the next step in his development. Macon hit just 42.3 percent of his 615 field goal attempts in Frisco this season. He also shot 32.7 percent on his 3-pointers. Improved efficiency is the key for the young point guard.
Final thoughts
Dallas Mavericks guard Daryl Macon’s rookie season highlight video dropped on May 29. Fans saw flashes from Macon. The 23-year-old needs to continue working on his game to earn a more consistent NBA role.
Minutes with the Mavericks will again be difficult to come by next season. Macon will be behind Luka, Brunson, Barea, and perhaps a new addition in free agency. Expect him to thrive leading the Legends, though.
