The Dallas Mavericks may not be the favorite to sign any single player at this point in the offseason, but with everything based on rumors at this point, it is good to see the Mavs name involved with some big name players.

NBA Free Agency is one of the craziest times in all of sports. Rumors pile up for weeks and weeks before the festivities start and in reality, they are really just rumors. Some of them do end up being accurate like ones about teams potential targets, but rarely do you get a sense of where a player will end up going before free agency actually begins.

That is why the time we are in right now should not give Dallas Mavericks fans any less hope or optimism than they had when Kristaps Porzingis showed up. As of now, it is unclear if any top free agents will sign with Dallas as opposed to other big teams like the L.A. Lakers or Clippers, the New York Knicks or the Brooklyn Nets. We just don’t know yet.

That being said, it is a good sign that the Mavs have been mentioned among teams who will pursue a lot of these top free agents. Dallas is not the favorite to sign any big name free agent, but they are on the list for almost all of them.

As you can see, the Mavericks currently have the sixth best odds to sign Klay Thompson, the third best odds to sign Kemba Walker, the second best odds at D’Angelo Russell and Khris Middleton, the third best odds at Tobias Harris and the sixth best odds at Kyrie Irving. Just the fact that people are thinking that Dallas could be in the running for each of those guys is a good sign right now.

Those odds will continue changing right up until free agency begins. At that point, the players will begin to make it clear who they are actually considering vs. who can move on to different targets. Dallas, like many other teams, will fall out of the running on some of these guys, but they will also move up in odds in some places too.

Free Agency begins on June 30th, just over a month from now. Keep up with us here at The Smoking Cuban for updates on all free agency rumors as well as any other noteworthy Mavs news.
