The Dallas Mavericks have been honored with two of the five top NBA Moments of the Year thanks to two really special players. In this case, Dirk Nowitzki is the center of attention, getting love from an opposing crowd.

The NBA was really an amazing scene for some amazing shots, fantastic performances and tearful farewells. Despite a shadow of doubt cast by Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks organization, no one could stop the big man from getting the love he deserved from around the league this year.

That love was bestowed upon him from almost every NBA arena, even though he did not officially announce his retirement until after the second-to-last game of the season. So many coaches, players and organizations knew that there was a chance this was the last time they would get to honor one of the true greats of the game and they did not want to miss that chance.

Perhaps the most amazing and heartwarming tributes given from an opposing fanbase was when Dirk traveled to Los Angeles to face the Clippers for the last time. Head coach, Doc Rivers, made a point to make sure the city of L.A. recognized the greatness that is Dirk Nowitzki.

If you were moved by this moment as much as I was, drop in and give the combination of Dirk and Doc a vote. This final Dirk season deserves to get recognition for just how much he meant to the league as shown by these tributes. At the very least, let’s make sure he beats out D-Wade in this one.

Dirk officially hung up his size 15s at the end of this season, but we can plan on still seeing him around the Mavs organization for years to come. If we can’t see him in a Mavericks jersey, at least somewhere nearby is the next best thing. The entire NBA will miss Dirk and what he brought to the league, but none will miss him quite like the city of Dallas will. He will forever be a legend in these parts.

The NBA Awards show will be televised on TNT on June 24th. This will be the first chance to see who wins such awards as the Coach of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year and the highly coveted NBA Sportsmanship Award. Stay Tuned.
