Dallas Mavericks: Coach Carlisle visits Luka Doncic in Slovenia

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is back home in Slovenia. Head coach Rick Carlisle, Dwight Powell, and assistant coach Jamahl Mosley came to visit him.

Dallas Mavericks standout Luka Doncic is coming off one of the best rookie seasons in NBA history. He was the first rookie to average over 20 points, seven rebounds, and five assists per game since Oscar Robertson in 1961. Doncic proved he can be the Mavs primary ball handler and leading scorer too.

The 20-year-old has a bright future ahead. Massive expectations are everywhere for Luka. He has no ceiling at this point. Doncic could legitimately grow into the NBA’s best player. Time will tell how much Luka improves over the next decade.

Back home

Luka Doncic returned to Europe shortly after the Mavericks season ended. He made a stop at his old club, Real Madrid, before return home to Slovenia. The Mavs star is enjoying some down time before getting back to work on improving his game.

Mavericks pay him a visit

Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle made a house call, and he was not alone. He brought assistant coach Jamahl Mosley and center Dwight Powell to Slovenia to visit and workout with Luka Doncic. Fans can read the local Slovenian news story courtesy of 24 UR here.

This is not uncommon. Coach Carlisle said during his exit interview that he would visit both Luka and Kristaps Porzingis in their home countries during the offseason.  The Mavericks are committed to both players developing into the faces of their franchise for the next decade-plus.

The fact that Dwight Powell is on the trip to Slovenia should only further cement into fan’s minds that he will be back with the Mavs next season. The 27-year-old continues to improve every year. He will be an important part of the Mavericks rotation in 2020.
