Dallas Mavericks CEO, Cynt Marshall, to represent team at NBA Draft Lottery
By Kohl Rast
The Dallas Mavericks haven’t had much luck at the NBA Draft Lottery lately. Hoping to swing that bad luck streak, the Mavs are sending CEO, Cynt Marshall, to the lotto in place of VP, Michael Finley.
In a small change of events, the Dallas Mavericks have chosen to change up their NBA Draft Lottery strategy this year by sending CEO and fan favorite, Cynt Marshall, to the lottery to represent the team. Dallas is hoping to replicate some of the luck they got when getting Marshall as the new CEO.
For the first time in a long time, this NBA Draft class is essentially one deep, with Zion Williamson distancing himself from the pack. Although other guys have made a good case for the next few draft positions like Ja Morant, Jarrett Culver, R.J. Barrett and others, none have taken the nation by storm quite like Zion has.
Dallas is hoping for some real luck in this lottery, knowing that they need to land inside the top 4 just to keep their first round pick this year. The pick is top 5 protected, but if it does fall outside of the top 5, the Atlanta Hawks get it. This was part of the Luka Doncic–Trae Young swap on draft day last year.
That trade ended up being the perfect move for the Mavs, but if they had more luck in the lottery, they would have never needed to make a draft day trade in the first place. It is a minor thing, but still a bit of an open wound.
Marshall is a great choice to represent the team in the public eye, considering that the public image of the team is one of the most important things she has been working on since coming on with the Mavs. It also doesn’t hurt that she is already one of the most beloved staff members by the Mavericks fanbase.
The NBA Draft Lottery is taking place on Tuesday, May 14th, where the league will determine the order in which the draft will go. Dallas has a decent chance at landing within the top 4 spots, but it would probably be better if we didn’t all hold our breath for that to happen.
