Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is producing stats as a rookie that only Oscar Robertson can match. Find out more about his amazing season.

Dallas Mavericks rookie Luka Doncic is a player basketball fans run out of superlatives trying to describe. He has been the Mavs best player since his first NBA game. Luka continues to make history during his rookie campaign.

As Doncic’s first NBA campaign winds down the historical comparisons are sweeping in. They are always impressive. Here is what Luka Doncic accomplished on April 3 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Compares only to the Big O

Dallas Mavericks play-by-play man Mark Followill sent out the following Tweet shortly after Wednesday’s game.

That is astonishing. Luka is now averaging 21.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game in his 71 contests this season.

Only one other rookie can match Doncic’s production. Oscar Robertson is a Hall of Famer who made the All-Star team 12 times and accomplished just about everything a player can on the basketball court during his 14-year professional career.

By securing the fact that he will average over 20 points per game for his rookie season, Luka also became just the ninth rookie since 2000 to accomplish that feat. His 21.2 points per game are second only to Blake Griffin’s 22.5 in 2011 on that list.

Ties Curry

Luka Doncic also tied Stephen Curry for third on the most 3-pointers made by a rookie chart on Wednesday. He is 21 behind Donovan Mitchell to take over the lead in that category. The Mavs have four games remaining meaning Luka would need to average over five 3-pointers made per game to break the record.

Final thoughts

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is having one of the best rookie seasons in NBA history. With each passing game, a new impressive stat about Doncic’s play emerges. He is more than a fantastic rookie, though. The 20-year-old is already one of the best players in the NBA.

Mavericks fans could not be more excited about the future in Dallas. Luka looks prepared to make the leap to superstar status.
