Dallas Mavericks: Luka Doncic wins Rookie of the Month for November

Dallas Mavericks leading scorer Luka Doncic was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for October/November.

The Dallas Mavericks made a franchise-altering trade on June 21, 2018. After two straight seasons of failing to make the playoffs, the Mavericks traded up to secure Slovenian standout Luka Doncic. It cost them two first round picks, but early returns say it was well worth the price.

Through 20 games, Doncic is taking the NBA by storm. He is averaging 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.4 blocks, 2.4 3-pointers made, and 3.8 turnovers per game in 33.2 minutes a night. Those are all impressive for a rookie and unbelievable for a 19-year-old.

Luka is leading the Mavericks in scoring and has them pushing for the playoffs in a deep Western Conference. Wonder Boy has been remarkable to begin his NBA career.

Awards begin

Luka Doncic won almost every award imaginable while playing for Real Madrid. He received EuroLeague MVP, EuroLeague Rising Star, and countless other awards during his four years playing in Spain. That is what Luka expects to do in the NBA, and he appears right on pace.

The Slovenian standout received his first honors on Dec. 3. Here is the Tweet from the Mavericks official account breaking the news.

It should come as no surprise after what Doncic has done early on. He is on a historic rookie pace. Luka has scored over 20 points in ten of his first 20 games. Comparing Doncic’s stat line to others in NBA history usually only retrieves legends back from the database.

Expect this to be the first of many awards for Luka Doncic throughout his NBA career. He is the clear frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, and it won’t be long before All-Star appearances are rolling in for Wonder Boy. Please enjoy the ride Dallas Mavericks fans.

Oddly, enough the other player in the trade, Trae Young, was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month. The NBA is full of exciting and entertaining rookies, but the Mavericks have the ace in Doncic.
