Dallas Mavericks drafted European sensation Luka Doncic this offseason and here are five reasons why he will take home the Rookie of the Year award.

The Dallas Mavericks made a bold move to kick off this offseason.  The Mavericks slipped from the third overall pick to fifth in the draft lottery but made the bold move to trade back up on draft night.  It cost Dallas a top-five protected first round pick in 2019 too.

The swap was made to select Slovenian prodigy and European sensation Luka Doncic.  Doncic fits the modern NBA mold of a 6’8 player capable of guarding one through four and handling the ball.  He rated by many as the best player in this draft class but was still on the board at pick three.

Mavericks fans are in for a treat with Doncic.  He is a unique talent that can make a lot of highlight plays on the offensive end.  That alone should have supporters excited for his rookie campaign.

The move was a gamble, though.  Doncic needs to be special and continue developing into an NBA All-Star for the trade to be looked back on as a massive success.  The Mavs deemed it a worthy risk, though.

Now, Luka Doncic is entering his first professional NBA campaign at age 19 as one of the favorites to take home the Rookie of the Year award.  Here are five reasons why Doncic will walk away with that award after the season.  Plus, a look at the field he faces in winning the honor.
