Dallas Mavericks rookie Ray Spalding got fans out of their seats with an amazing putback dunk on Nov. 26 in the Texas Legends loss to the Stockton Kings.

The Dallas Mavericks made a 2018 draft night trade to acquire the services of Ray Spalding. The 56th overall pick was given a guaranteed contract with the Mavs, but the crowded frontcourt has put Spalding in the G-League.

It is the best situation for both parties in the short-term. Spalding gets to play massive minutes and be one of the premier players on the Texas Legends. The Mavericks also continue his development against professional talent.

The Legends faced off against the Stockton Kings on Nov. 26. They traveled to California and lost 101-97 despite a feverish fourth-quarter comeback. Spalding did not disappoint, though.

The Mavericks rookie finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, one steal, two blocks, and two turnovers in 30 minutes of action. Spalding was also seven of 12 from the field and five for eight on free throws. The stats were not the only reason to get excited, though.

The dunk

Ray Spalding showed off his impressive leaping ability by slamming home a Josh Newkirk miss in the first quarter. The description does not cut the mustard, so watch it here courtesy of the Legends official Twitter.

Spalding is one of the most exciting players in the G-League this season. The 21 year old will be an NBA rotation player so enough. For now, Spalding will continue to dominate the G-League while he awaits his opportunity.

Final thoughts

The Texas Legends are in the midst of a four-game California road swing. They next play against the South Bay Lakers on Nov. 28. Ray Spalding will be looking to produce another outstanding game with a must-see highlight.

Dallas Mavericks fans should be excited about the potential of Spalding. Keep an eye on The Smoking Cuban for periodic updates on the Louisville product all season.
