The Dallas Mavericks provided injury updates heading into the Oct. 20 home opener against the Timberwolves and more in this edition of Mavs news.

The Dallas Mavericks are looking to remove the rotten taste from their mouths left by the regular season opener.  They traveled to Phoenix and played poorly in route to a 121-100 loss against the Suns.  Not the start anyone wanted for the year.

The Mavericks have their home opener on Saturday evening versus the Minnesota Timberwolves.  The Wolves are coming off a Friday home victory after losing their first game.  The Mavs shared plenty of injury news on the team ahead of that contest.

Barnes practices, but still out

The hamstring injury for Harrison Barnes has been a massive blow to the Mavericks.  He led the team in scoring the last two years.  Barnes is also a steady defensive presence capable of guarding multiple positions.  The team needs him back in the lineup to reach its full potential.

That day looks to be coming soon, but maybe not in the home opener.  Barnes made it through practice on Friday, but his status for Saturday is questionable at best.  Here is what Coach Carlisle had to say after the Oct. 19 session courtesy of Tim Cato.

That does not sound positive.  You can listen to his full quote on Barnes’ status here courtesy of Dwain Price.

Harris out multiple games

Devin Harris was the first Maverick off the bench in the regular season opener.  Sadly, the veteran only lasted six minutes before injuring his hamstring and missing the rest of the contest.  Coach Carlisle offered an update on his status heading into the home opener courtesy of Dwain Price.

Fans have seen firsthand that hamstring ailments can be tricky with Harrison Barnes.  Do not be surprised to see Harris miss quite a few games especially with the Mavs playing seven times between now and Halloween night.
