18. Jalen Jones
The Mavs brought in Jalen Jones late last season to be their second two-way contract player. The signing didn’t bring him very much playing time for Dallas, but he did split some time with the Texas Legends. Jones was waived by the Mavs at the end of the season.
Dallas decided to bring Jones back after losing Terry Larrier to injury shortly after being signed. Jones was not expected to make the roster this year considering both two way contracts have already been given to Daryl Macon and Kostas Antetokounmpo.
I think Jones is a decent player, but probably not NBA caliber at this point. He could be one of the better players with the Legends if he chooses to go that route, but there is definitely a chance that another team could try him out.
Either way, expect Jones to be the last player cut from the Mavs regular season roster.
17. Daryl Macon
I still don’t know much about Daryl Macon other than that he was a sought after player from multiple franchises this summer. After a great college career split between Holmes Community College and Arkansas University, Macon went undrafted but became a sought after signee across the NBA.
Macon signed with the Miami Heat during summer league but chose to go to Dallas after being offered a two-way contract. Macon was an especially good shooter in college, leading the SEC in three-point percentage.
I believe that Macon will spend a majority of his time with the Legends this season to hone his game a little more. He could be a very useful asset to the Mavs going forward, but it will take time to develop and become that player that the Mavs have seen from him.
Macon has not gotten much time in the preseason so far which is a shame because many of us want to see what he really can do. I guess we will just have to wait for his time with the Legends.
