Dallas Mavericks point guard, J.J. Barea, has also come down with a hamstring injury from practice today, but his appears to be less significant than Harrison Barnes.

The Dallas Mavericks had their first round of injuries in yesterday’s practice, as Harrison Barnes and J.J. Barea each went down with hamstring injuries. The initial report talked about Barnes and how he may be out for a little while, but it does not seem like Barea’s injury is nearly as problematic.

It is a good sign that initial reports aren’t making things seem to serious. Barea has had some injury issues over the past few years and since he isn’t getting any younger, these injuries are hanging with him a little longer than usual.

Barea is currently listed as day-to-day, which means he could be back on any given day, there is no timetable for his return but it shouldn’t be a very long time. It was unlikely that Barea would get much time at all during the preseason, so this injury shouldn’t lessen his court time anymore than it would have already been.

J.J. Barea is coming off of a solid statistical season that saw him averaging his highest averages of his career in points, assists and rebounds. These numbers look great but he has definitely lost a bit of a step in his game since his younger years. Either way, Barea is proving that he can still be effective in the NBA and with the Dallas Mavericks.

I am a big fan of J.J. and hope that he thrives once again with the team this year. It will be interesting to see what kind of direction the Mavs go with him going forward, especially with Dirk’s career coming to a close. Either way, Barea will always be a dearly beloved Maverick.

Reports for barea’s injury should come ahead of their first preseason game on Saturday, but don’t be surprised if he does not get a chance to play in this one.
