3. The Mavs have money still

It’s not a lot, but the Dallas Mavericks do still have some available cash to spend wherever they see fit. They won’t be getting any major assets to the team, but they could add either a solid veteran or a youngster that hasn’t proven his worth yet. Either way, the Mavs should have more than just Jordan, Luka, and Brunson in new jerseys this year.

I will detail some of the names I think Dallas should pursue, but the point is, Dallas still has some room. Take that for what it’s worth.

The other thing to note is that the Mavs will not be offering anything other than a one-year deal, unless it is for very cheap. They will want every dollar they can get their hands on for the 2019 free agency period. Names like Kristaps Porzingis, Karl-Anthony Towns, Devin Booker, and others will headline that class.

Another thing to think about is that Dallas really needs to jump on next summer’s free agency. There is a fear that teams will get caught in a never-ending cycle of getting caught up in the newly available free agents for the upcoming summer. If Dallas doesn’t pounce on some of their cap space, things are going to be really frustrating.

I don’t think Dallas will fall into a cycle. I think that they will prove they are on the up and up this year and will potentially re-sign DeAndre Jordan along with another bigger name free agent. A future lineup that consists of DSJ, Luka, Barnes, Jordan and someone like Porzingis or Klay Thompson would be pretty fascinating.
