The Dallas Mavericks and DeAndre Jordan verbally agree to deal
By Kohl Rast
The Dallas Mavericks and DeAndre Jordan have verbally agreed to a one-year deal worth just over $24 million, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times. The deal will not be official until a contract can be signed after the moratorium period.
The Dallas Mavericks got their guy and they got him for their price. DeAndre Jordan will be joining the Mavs three seasons after spurning them during the moratorium period during the infamous “Indecision”. The things have really gone full cycle when you take into account that Dallas was trying to offer Wesley Matthews for Jordan in a opt-in and trade with the Clippers.
DJ is one of the league’s best rebounders and maybe the best finisher above the rim in the league. Lob city is coming to Dallas and people are going to be in for a show every time the team steps on the court.
Now, I know what y’all are thinking, but this time is different. There will not be any problems during moratorium and DJ will be a Maverick next year. It’s time for MFFL to allow the past to be the past and the future to be the future.
DeAndre Jordan will be under a 1 year contract for $24.1 million. That is a fantastic deal for Dallas, who will stay very flexible on cap next summer when many more free agents will be available. The Mavs made it clear to Jordan that they were looking for the opt-in and trade option to get him as a rental and Jordan was alright with that. This could change by the end of the year.
Marc Stein first broke the news that a verbal agreement had been reached. The Mavs will be excited to see what they have between DeAndre Jordan, Dennis Smith Jr., Harrison Barnes, Luka Doncic and, of course, Dirk Nowitzki. This should be a fun year.
