Nemanja Bjelica

The last name on my list is another unique one and, if I am being completely honest, is really not in my top 5 restricted free agents available. That being said, Nemanja Bjelica is a very interesting player to consider for the Dallas Mavericks. As a pretty true power forward without much position flexibility, his fit could be awkward in Dallas, but it may be worth the risk as a small contract addition.

Bjelica is a sweet shooting power forward who shot 46% from the field and 41.5% from three last season. He is not a superbly athletic player but he is a tough-nosed defender who will do everything he can to stop the player in front of him. That doesn’t mean he will be able to every time, but people will underrate his defense because of the lack of athleticism.

I would love to add another shooter around Luka and Dennis, especially one that is 6’10”, and Bjelica could be that. He is already 30 years old so he would not help add to the youth of the team, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be able to contribute. Shooters like that tend to age well, especially ones that land in Dallas.

I think that the Mavs would be able to get Bjelica on a very reasonable contract for a couple years, including a team option. He has not really set himself up as a big name for the Timberwolves and they may let him walk this summer if the price is too steep. I don’t think a steep price will actually be that crazy though.

If Dallas adds Bjelica, the biggest impact would be a solid stretch 4 that could give the team another catch-and-shoot option on the outside.

These are just a few of the names the Mavs could consider, but I think each one of them would bring their own unique strengths to Dallas. Either way, we will find out if any of these names are on the Mavs radar in just a few days.
