Instant reaction: Dallas Mavericks trade up to get Luka Doncic

It happened people. The Dallas Mavericks made the necessary move to grab the star that we have all been hoping for. Luka Doncic, the European sensation, will be suiting up for the Dallas Mavericks next season.

In an exciting move that was rumored throughout the day, the Dallas Mavericks have chosen to jump the gun and select the most accomplished player in the draft, Luka Doncic. Doncic is coming off an MVP season with Real Madrid in which he led his team to a championship. He also won the Final Four MVP.

The Dallas Mavericks had to move up to the third pick to get Doncic from Atlanta. It cost a protected future first rounder, but the deal was made and the Hawks got Trae Young.

This is the most exciting player in the draft without a doubt and his name will be one that is known for years to come in the Mavs organization.

Luka has already been billed as the next Dirk Nowitzki for the Mavs. That shouldn’t get you thinking that his game is similar to Dirk, but his influence on the franchise could be huge. As the most accomplished European star in history, he will have to fill some expectations in the NBA but he will do so without worry if you ask me.

The hype for Luka Doncic is real and it is really fun. Expect him to jump right into the starting lineup alongside Dennis Smith Jr. and be an immediate threat on the offensive end. His defense is going to need some work, but you just cant pass on a guy like Luka Doncic.
