NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Lottery Picks Only

#4: Memphis Grizzlies
Michael Porter Jr., Missouri
“The Grizzlies are the first team on my list to make a bit of a reach pick. Even though it remains to be seen how much of a reach this pick really is, I think Memphis wants someone that could help with the immediate success of this team.
They could pick Marvin Bagley, who would probably fit pretty well next to Marc Gasol, but I believe they want a wing that will help them long term. If they can get out from under their terrible Chandler Parsons contract, it may be even better for them. I expect this team to be much improved next year.” –Kohl Rast
Marvin Bagley III, Duke
“The Grizzlies have seemingly accepted the idea that they can compete in the Western conference as long as mike Conley and Marc Gasol are under contract. The massive max contract splurge that the team threw at Chandler Parsons has completely backfired and the team needs fresh blood in their front court.
Bagley is supremely athletic and could give the Grizzlies the type of successor they have been looking for since Zach Randolph departed. The Grizzlies could look to add a shooter given their inability to hit outside shots, but should pursue Bagley given his experience at Duke and his offensive repertoire.” –Evan Siegel
Michael Porter Jr., Missouri
“Porter is a mystery, having barely played any games in college. He’s also a risk, because the last thing you want is a basketball player with a bad back. So the question is: was that back injury a fluke, or is it going to be an issue his whole career? Luckily, the Grizzlies are in a position to take a risk.
They believe they’re a playoff team when healthy, and they’re bringing back Mike Conley, Marc Gasol, and orthopedic surgeon connoisseur Chandler Parsons. They are in a unique position to add a potential all-star to a team laden with veterans. Porter could take them from playoff team to championship contender if he’s everything that’s advertised.” –Ben Zajdel
