Kostas Antetokounmpo

Now that we got a safe pick out of the way, I would love to see the Mavs take a chance on someone like the Assassin from Athens (I’ll get something better than that, I promise). Kostas Antetokounmpo is the younger brother of Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo. Shocking considering how common the last name is, but it’s true.

At 20 years old, Antetokounmpo is still developing his game. He measures similar to his older brother but has not shown quite the ability on the court that Giannis has shown so far. Unlike Giannis, we have seen Kostas on the court here in the US and it has not been as overwhelming as many probably had hoped.

Still, Kostas proved that he has a lot to show the NBA with his performance at the pre-draft combine. He measures out at 6’10” with a 7’2″ wingspan (both one-inch shorter than his brother), and he is not slow on the court by any means.

His numbers in college did not help his draft stock any as he averaged only 15 minutes in his 29 games with Dayton. The decision to enter the NBA Draft was a bit of a surprise to many but his upside could easily find him a team without an issue. Like the Dallas Mavericks.

He likely won’t ever catch his older brother as a basketball player, but it is hard to compare him to anyone else. They have a similar game, focusing more on drives to the basket than any jump shooting, grabbing a good amount of rebounds, and just moving fluidly both with and without the ball.

He may be a stretch at #33, but it could be worth it so the Mavs don’t miss out on yet another Antetokounmpo. Spellman would be a safer pick and could fit nicely into the Mavs offense that thrives on guys being able to shoot. Either way, these are just a few names for Dallas to consider in the 2nd round.
