The Dallas Mavericks have been focused in on the 5th overall pick ever since the lottery results were released. However, Dallas also has a pair of 2nd round picks to make on draft night. Here are a couple names to consider that have not been mentioned much.

There is no shortage of rumors across the league if we didn’t already know that. People have epiphanies and deep thoughts that they believe make sense and start pushing them out as fact. The truth is, we have no idea what direction the Mavs are going to go with all of their draft picks or even free agency.

Once the 2nd round of the NBA Draft starts, the Mavs will know what direction they can take their picks. They will have an early pick (#33) and a late pick (#54) as of now but anything could change on draft night.

For the most part, an early 2nd rounder is looked at as kind of a late first-rounder and people want to get a player that has shown that he can produce in one way or another. I agree with that belief usually, however sometimes you have to reach for someone that could turn out great. It doesn’t work out a lot of the time, but sometimes the risk is worth the potential reward.

In this post, we will look at one player who fits each type of pick: one for a guy who looks ready now, and one for a guy with a lot of potential. They are not necessarily my top picks for Dallas to make in the 2nd round, but they are people that they should at least look into.
