The future of Wesley Matthews is technically up in the air this summer with a player option, but he doesn’t plan on being anywhere else next year.

Wesley Matthews has had an interesting career in Dallas.

After tearing his Achilles in the spring of 2015 while playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, Matthews would head into the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

Looking like a package deal with DeAndre Jordan, Matthews was set to sign in Dallas. But even after Jordan backed out of the deal, Matthews stayed committed and signed a four-year, $70 million deal.

He played in 78 games that first season in Dallas. Which is incredible considering the injury he suffered back in the spring. Even though he proved his Iron Man nickname, he put up career low averages across the board.

Fast forwarding to the 2017-18 season, Matthews would appear in 63 games and shoot the highest three-point percentage for his time in Dallas. At 31 years old, Matthews now enters the summer where he has a player option for $18.6 million.

He spoke with Mavs.com on him being in Dallas next year.

“Obviously that’s something that hasn’t been on my mind,” Matthews told Dwain Price of Mavs.com. “That’s what you have an agent for and agencies for.”

“Like I said, I don’t plan on being anywhere else. And now it’s just focusing on getting back healthy, which I am now, and getting on this court,” Matthews told Price.

He seems to love it in Dallas and the organization loves him being around as a mentor for the young guys. Of course, he has 70 million reasons to love it in Dallas also.

He said a similar thing at his exit interview back earlier in April that he didn’t plan on being elsewhere, but this only solidifies that.
