The NBA trade market has been dominated with headlines of the Los Angeles Lakers, Nikola Mirotic, and now Marc Gasol as sources continually try to tweet a blockbuster trade into existence. However the smaller trades made each year are often the most impactful.

Trade season is coming closer and closer and more potential trade targets are continually coming out of the woodworks. The Dallas Mavericks are historically a very active team during the NBA trade window and no one is expecting that to change this year, especially considering some actual trade chips on the roster now.

Some of the most important trades that teams make each year happen away from the news cycle and are only mentioned off-hand. Blockbuster trades suck up all of the attention, while the difference makers move from team to team in silence, making an impact wherever they go.

The Dallas Mavericks are notorious for finding the hidden gems of trade season. Some great players have come to Dallas via trade and often times they haven’t even been talked about until they were stealing the show. My explanation for this is that team players can generally learn how to play with a new team relatively seamlessly. Stars have a harder time with that though.

So which role players (or maybe even a little bit less than role players) should the Dallas Mavericks be keeping an ear to the ground for? Even if they don’t actively pursue them, which players should Dallas at least be aware of as rumors ramp up?

Here is my short list of off-the-radar players that the Mavs could target.
