The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly bringing in Antonius Cleveland and releasing Gian Clavell.

As first reported by Shams Charania of Yahoo’s The Vertical, the Dallas Mavericks have plans to sign guard Antonius Cleveland and part ways with Gian Clavell.

Cleveland is currently a member of the Santa Cruz Warriors, a G-League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors. In six games played this season, he is averaging 13.8 points while shooting 60 percent from behind the arc.

Prior to turning pro, Cleveland spent four years at Southeast Missouri State University. As his minutes increased, so did his production. In his final collegiate season, he averaged 16.6 points on 54-percent shooting and 5.1 rebounds.

In addition to an improved offensive game, the lengthy guard contributed 1.4 steals and just under a block per game (0.9).

Since entering the G-League, his struggles at the free throw line have been handled. Leaving college shooting 66-percent from the charity stripe, Cleveland has increased his accuracy to 89-percent. Perhaps, this spike can be attributed to the developmental aspect of the G-League.

One thing is for sure, the Mavs noticed.

What This Means For Dallas

While adding a sharpshooting wing, Dallas parts with another G-League product, Gian Clavell. Appearing in seven games this season, Clavell is shooting a subpar 33 percent from the field while averaging a mere two points per game.

With this season starting so slowly, any increase in production is welcomed.

Swapping out Clavell for Cleveland gives Dallas a much needed scorer off the bench who is also capable of disrupting passing lanes. With guard Seth Curry (sore shin) still out and a stockpile of bigs, help is needed on the wing. As was reported by Shams, this deal will see Cleveland replace Clavell as the Mavs second two-way contract.
