The Dallas Mavericks have officially made their selection, guard Dennis Smith Jr. from North Carolina State University. This is a great pick for the Mavericks who were not expecting to have options at the 9th pick. What can MFFLs expect?

The Dallas Mavericks went into the NBA Draft hoping to have a player they really want fall in the draft. Some players the Mavs had talked about wanting include Frank Ntilikina, Jonathan Isaac, Dennis Smith Jr., and Malik Monk. All of these players were projected top 9 picks so only one was expected to be there.

Well, as luck would have it, the Mavs had a choice between two great players with a crazy amount of potential in Dennis Smith Jr. and Malik Monk. The Mavericks weighed their options and decided to go with Dennis Smith Jr. This is an excellent pick for Dallas who just picked up a player who will most likely be ready to go right away.

One thing we can count on from this pick is that Dallas will not have to work too much on a prospect. Smith Jr. is a player who is ready to go and can contribute to the team immediately. Obviously this is an exciting pick for Dallas so here are the first thoughts from the pick, both good and bad.

GOOD: The Dallas Mavericks got a guy that can score. Smith Jr. is an excellent attacker who can also shoot the ball fairly well. He does well with the ball in his hands and is as athletically gifted as anyone in the draft. He will be a great NBA player.

BAD: No matter who was taken by the Mavericks, the fear of lack of playing time is something that is all too familiar in Dallas. The team knew they wanted a guard and got that in this pick. However, that does not mean that this player is going to be in the game enough to fully contribute early on. Only time will tell if Dennis Smith Jr. will get his chance.

The Dallas Mavericks are going to get a great player in Dennis Smith Jr. and MFFLs should be ecstatic about him. Please join us here at The Smoking Cuban in welcoming Smith Jr. as the newest Dallas Mavericks player and hopeful star. Welcome to the family, Dennis!
