Thabo Sefolosha

Thabo Sefolosha is last on this list and for a reason. He really should not be on the Mavs radar, but there is no reason to think that, if the team does strikeout, Sefolosha wouldn’t be a good consolation prize. Thabo is not a big name in the NBA and never really has been, but you do know what you’re going to get from a player like him.

To start with, Sefolosha is 33 years old. This is already a bad start as the Mavs want to get younger. Thabo has made a career as a defensive specialist and is still capable of holding that title. His three-point shooting has never been stellar but it has never been bad either. He is 6’7″ and still a great player to have on the court.

Sefolosha would love to come to Dallas because he has lost his spot in Atlanta. At 33 years old, the team has phased him out and he will need a new home. That new home is not going to come with a big contract as older players and players that can’t score are becoming more obsolete in the NBA. Dallas would give him a good home for his skills and a chance to work with some great people.

The only way I see Dallas going after Sefolosha would be on a veteran’s minimum deal, something that he may not be keen to. If the Mavericks can add him at that point, it would be a great sign for a player that will be ready to either start or come off the bench, depending on what is needed from him. He is not a long term solution, but if he is not tying up any cap space, there is no problem with having him on the team.

These two may not be a match made in heaven and it probably will not work if someone like San Antonio comes calling for Thabo. He is a good player that is in the late years of his career but he still has value.

These are just a few names that can be on the Dallas Mavericks radar if the team does decide to go for a shooting guard in free agency. Some are longshots and some are good possibilities, but we won’t know until the Mavs direction is set a little more clearly.
