Ben McLemore

This is definitely a familiar name for Mavericks fans who have been interested in the young Sacramento Kings player for years. McLemore is 24 years old and a restricted free agent, but after the Kings big move to acquire Buddy Hield, his value in the organization seems to be diminishing. I believe that the Kings will let McLemore walk, opening up a door for Dallas to move on him.

McLemore has been underwhelming in his 4 years with Sacramento, averaging double-digits in a season only in his 2nd year. His ceiling is high but he has not had much of a chance to spread his wings in the struggling Sacramento franchise. That being said, he may be a prime target for the Mavs.

The Mavericks would want McLemore because of his high ceiling. There is not much in his actual play that is terribly appealing, but he has been on Dallas’ radar for some time and for a reason. His price may be at a record low right now, and if Dallas pulls the trigger, it probably wouldn’t be a big time gamble, even if he stays where his play is at now. He would be better served as a backup at first.

McLemore would love a change in scenery. He is undoubtedly tired of the moves that Sacramento continues to make and, if he can get out of there, he will. The big hiccup will be his restricted contract, so a team may need to overpay a little bit to get him away from the Kings.

The only way I see this not working is if the Kings keep the youngster around instead of letting him walk. I don’t think they see him as a big part of the organization anymore but it will be interesting to see what his price tag might look like.
