The Dallas Mavericks are ready to go for the future with both the small forward and center positions but could definitely use an upgrade at the other three. Here are a short list of possible shooting guards that could help the Mavs down the road.

Every team needs a good shooting guard. The Dallas Mavericks have had some great ones in the past and even signed one to a max deal that was supposed to be a huge difference maker to the team. Obviously I’m talking about Wesley Matthews here, a player who could have been a long term answer for the Mavs, but never quite panned out.

The Mavericks still have Matthews under contract, obviously, but it is not a farfetched idea that Dallas may choose to go another direction and move Wes this summer. In fact, that idea has been tossed around quite a bit since the season ended. Matthews lack of success in a Mavericks uniform seems to point to both parties looking for a new scene.

First thing most people think of is definitely the possibility of moving Seth Curry to the starting five. Although I think Curry possesses the ability to be an excellent starter in the league, (he is a Curry after all), I am not sure he has proven that spot quite yet. A great sixth man, yes, but anything past that, not quite yet.

If and when the day comes that the Mavs need to find a new shooting guard for the starting lineup next season, there are plenty of solid options to consider. It will be tough to know how a new guard may fit with the team until the Mavs determine who the new point guard will be, but that won’t slow the process down too much.

All that said, here is a short list of shooting guards the Mavs may look into pursuing this offseason.
