The Dallas Mavericks have been searching for trade partners for weeks and, for the first time, it looks like they may have some actual suitors. What did Rick Carlisle have to say about it all?
With the most exciting news thus far for Dallas fans wanting a trade, we are told that Andrew Bogut and Deron Williams were both held out of practice today for the Dallas Mavericks. Essentially all of the trade rumors linked to Dallas have been around these two players so this is no coincidence.
According to Earl K. Sneed, both Bogut and D-Will were held out of practice today by Coach Carlisle. In a press conference after the practice, Rick Carlisle reportedly said, “With the trade deadline tomorrow, you can read a lot into that.”
No word on any actual team that these players may be going to has been said yet but there is plenty of speculation to go around. Until tomorrow we may not know, but for now the hopes of getting some new faces and/or more picks for Dallas is alive and kicking.
In another comment from Dallas Mavericks point guard, J.J. Barea, we are told that the rest of the Mavs team was informed that there may be a trade made before the deadline but as of now, nothing is concrete.
In even more interesting news coming from Dallas, the Mavericks recalled 2017 2nd Round pick, A.J. Hammons, from the Texas Legends. Hammons played with the Mavs in a few games earlier in the season but never anything significant. These types of moves happen all the time, but interesting timing nonetheless.
If Dallas is bringing up another players, there is a good chance that our return for these two players will come in the form of either picks or contracts to buyout. Either way, this is something to keep an eye on.
We here at The Smoking Cuban have speculated on a few different trade destinations that these players could land in, but one that was talked about by more than just us was the Deron Williams return to the Utah Jazz (per Tim MacMahon and Marc Stein).
The Jazz definitely have interest in a player like D-Will who is an immediate scoring threat and would be an improvement over Shelvin Mack off the bench for Utah. George Hill has had some injury concerns this year as well and, even though he is no better on the injury front, at least D-Will gives them options.
As far as Bogut goes, there has been rumored interest from Boston about a possible deal, but no sure word on whether they will want to pull the trigger. the Celtics are looking for the next blockbuster deal but if they strike out, Bogut may be a good consolation prize for them.
Once there is more to know about these two and the rumors that are surrounding them, you will be able to find it here. Until then, we all get to sit and wait patiently for more news and whispers across the league.
