The Dallas Mavericks have just added young point guard, Yogi Ferrell, who has been thriving in the starting lineup. Is it a coincidence that Deron Williams trade talks are circulating just days later?

The Dallas Mavericks are getting some stellar play out of rookie point guard, Yogi Ferrell, which is causing some interesting rumors to begin to circulate. Obviously Deron Williams is a veteran player with great NBA experience and an ability to play in clutch situations at a high level.

This makes Deron Williams a valuable trade asset, which may just work out in Dallas’ favor as they are hoping that Ferrell can become their go-to guy for at least the remainder of the year. D-Will has great skills and basketball IQ and that is why the Mavs know that they can move him if they so choose.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one team that has come calling to the Dallas Mavericks as they search for anything that could put them over the hump when it comes to the playoffs. Cleveland knows that the Golden State Warriors added a big piece in Kevin Durant and now are hoping to make any move they can to try and counteract that.

Obviously Deron is not going to be KD by any means, but that does not mean that he isn’t a valuable player to have on the team. A few weeks ago, LeBron James was reportedly looking for a veteran playmaker to help the team out. It even got to the point that the Cavs worked out a few unrestricted free agents like Kirk Hinrich, Mario Chalmers, and Jordan Farmar.

The even more interesting fact about this is that Cleveland has reportedly offered a trade centering around D-Will for Iman Shumpert. Shumpert is in his third year with the Cavs and has done well with the team, helping them capture a title just last year.

As of the latest news, the Mavericks are not interested in trading D-Will for Iman Shumpert straight across. Dallas is reportedly seeking to add a draft pick with any deal that includes Deron Williams or Andrew Bogut.

The Cavaliers have also showed interest in Andrew Bogut as a potential veteran playmaker, but no word has been given on if any mutual interest between the two. Cleveland would not be able to make a move for anyone very easily with their horrible cap situation, but they are certainly looking by any means necessary.

The Mavs really need to consider moving one or the other, either to the Cavs or someone else. Both are getting older and injury prone, which is detracting their trade value. It is time for a change and I am worried the Mavs aren’t going to make it.
