Quincy Acy, Briefly With the Mavs, to Join Legends

Former Dallas Mavericks forward, Quincy Acy, had his rights purchased by the Mavs D-League Affiliate, the Texas Legends. The Legends went out of their way to bring Acy back to Texas.

When the Dallas Mavericks signed Quincy Acy over the summer, a lot of fans were very excited. Acy spent his high school days locally at John Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas. After graduating, Acy went to Baylor University.

While at Baylor, Quincy Acy played all four years for the Bears, reaching many accomplishments, including All Big-12 Freshmen Team, Big-12 Sixth Man of the Year, and Second Team All Big-12. He averaged only 10 points per game in his college career, but was known as more of a defensive presence.

After finishing out his college career, Acy entered the 2012 NBA draft as a solid defensive player with unpolished offensive skills. He was taken by the Toronto Raptors in the 2nd round with the 37th overall pick.

He did not spend much of his time with the Raptors in his first season as he flip-flopped a few times between the NBA and the D-League. After the first season in Toronto/Bakersfield, Acy was included in the trade that brought Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings.

During the 2013-14 season with the Sacramento Kings, Quincy got a lot of time on the court. After the season, he became part of a small trade that sent him to the New York Knicks. He spent the 2014-15 season in New York.

When that season ended, Acy re-signed with the Sacramento Kings in 2015. After another short stint with the Kings, Quincy Acy returned home to the Dallas area where he joined the Mavericks.

After making the initial roster, Acy played in only 6 of the first 11 games before being waived to make room for Jonathan Gibson. This move was made in response to Dallas having to play without their three veteran guards, Deron Williams, J.J. Barea, and Devin Harris.

Shortly after Acy was waived, he entered the D-League free agent pool with the Los Angeles D-Fenders at the top of the waiver wire. The Mavs clearly wanted to keep Acy in the system because the Texas Legends made the decision to trade the D-Fenders Jamil Wilson and the 2017 first round pick of the NBA Development League Draft.

Quincy Acy is now set to start playing with the Legends this week, giving the Dallas Mavericks an opportunity to bring him back up to the big leagues if the opportunity arises.

Clearly the Mavs were not happy about the situation that led up to Acy needing to be waived. The good news is, now we do not have to worry about losing a guy that will bring energy to the court every single play that he is in the game. It is just a matter of time before he is back in the NBA.
