Gerald “Crash” Wallace has reportedly been waived by the Philadelphia 76ers, should the Dallas Mavericks be interested?
Gerald Wallace, at one time, was one of the most exciting wing players in the league with his non-stop hustle and high-flying athleticism that led to him getting the nickname “Crash.” After originally being drafted by the Sacramento Kings in 2001, Wallace found himself joining the Charlotte Bobcats just a few years later in the expansion draft.
Wallace gain steam in Charlotte where he posted career numbers and gained his only All-Star appearance in 2010. In that season he averaged 18.2 PPG along with 10 RPG.

Since then, Wallace has been kicked around different teams where he rode the bench and collected a decent amount of cash to play the leader role. Recently, he was shipped from Boston to Golden State in exchange for David Lee, while then getting flipped to Philadelphia for Jason Thompson. With the news of him getting waived by Philly today, should the Mavericks be interested?
As we have previously mentioned in our Training Camp Battles piece, the battle for backup wing minutes should be something to watch come next week during camp.
Is Jeremy Evans expected to take over the Aminu-type role off the bench? Is the Mavericks prepared to play a lot more small ball by rolling Wesley Matthews and John Jenkins at backup small forward minutes? Is Carlisle going to unleash the reigns on first round draft pick Justin Anderson as the main backup to Parsons? Is Parsons and Matthews going to be completely healthy?
If the Mavericks are unsure about all of these questions, or even the majority of them, then they should kick the tires on at least inviting Wallace to training camp. Even though Wallace wouldn’t give them the three-point threat that Jefferson did, I could see him filling right into the veteran wing Richard Jefferson role off the bench.
So Mavs fans…what do you think?
