DeAndre Jordan to be a “go-to” player in the post?
The Dallas Mavericks got their man in DeAndre Jordan, the league’s best rebounder, one of the best shot blockers around, and imposing figure at the rim. He was an obvious candidate as a target for the Mavericks. Tyson Chandler was a fantastic fit in Dallas, and Jordan brings the same sort of skill set to the table just in a younger, meatier body.
But it’s sounding like the Mavericks have more in mind for him than just being Tyson Chandler 2.0.

In an appearance on The Ticket, team owner Mark Cuban shared some of the pitch used to lure Jordan to Dallas and their plans for him in Dallas. It included some high praise and lofty expectations for a player who has averaged just 11.1 points in his career.
"“We see him as “Shaq-like” but never having been given the opportunity,” Cuban said. “We told him if he came to the Mavs, he would be a focal point. He would grow into being a franchise player.”"
Somewhere Shaquille O’Neal is frowning.
Jordan hasn’t shown any semblance of a consistent post game during his seven-year career with the Clippers, which is fine for the Mavericks. They wanted him mostly because he excels in other areas – areas in which the Mavericks struggle as a team.
But who knows? Jordan is still improving as a player: he’s only played 30+ minutes a night for two seasons in his career and has gotten better with each passing year. With some more time, and possibly some tutelage from Amar’e Stoudemire should he come back, Jordan could develop a more reliable repertoire on that end.
I’d be surprised if Jordan approached a 20-point average next season but it is possible. As great as DeAndre Jordan has been these last few years we still haven’t seen the best of him. That will come in a Maverick uniform.
