Jeremy Lin Linked to Mavs?

The last week has been a wild go around as NBA lottery-bound teams are starting to look toward this year’s offseason. This includes the Los Angeles Lakers, who are set to miss their third straight postseason and are looking to off-load some of their current players. One of them destined for a change scenery is Jeremy Lin, who hasn’t quite fit in in Lakerland but has plenty of Linsanity still in the tank.

Mavs’ owner Mark Cuban is apparently intrigued at the possibility of bringing Lin to Big D. Mavs’ announcer Mark Followill, a trusted source in the Dallas Mavericks community, broke the surprising news this morning.

“Was just about to brush my teeth before Mark Cuban called me he is bringing Jeremy Lin to Metroplex next season. Unprecedented and unconfirmed reports this is!” #Linsanity – @MFollowill

One thought after reading this tweet. Rondo will walk. Apparently the point guard big board we talked about wasn’t enough to convince Cuban to bring one of those players to play here, or at least keep Rondo. Instead he decides to gamble and make a splash with the soon-to-be fifth-year veteran.

It seems like only yesterday, but the Linsanity that ensued in The Big Apple – a confident kid who excelled in the pick-and-roll, throwing alley-oops to Tyson Chandler and dropping 28 points and 14 assists on the Dallas Mavericks – was over three years ago. Can he regain that type of confidence and recapture a starting gig for the Mavericks?

The question Lin will have to answer is his capability to play with a winning franchise. But the immediate reaction after this made-up news is that he will succeed playing the point guard in a heavy pick and roll system designed perfectly for him by the Mavs’ master puppeteer Rick Carlisle.

Plus, when he was catching fire for the Knicks the roster featured the faces of Henry Walker, Landry Fields, and Jared Jeffries. Next year the Mavs will surely outdo that lineup any day of the week, right?

Two things for sure. Jeremy Lin will prove he’s more than a jersey selling player. The second, you have fallen to our April Fools’ bump.

And wait. At the time of writing this piece, the Dallas Mavericks’ official twitter updated a particular bit of news, thus adding some spice to this talk.

“REPORT: Jeremy Lin is linked while @Amareisreal talks about shopping spree https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvYfRiJQIX8” – @dallasmavs

Well, it would still make one heck of a story and it is an intriguing move that we should all desire to see.

Happy April Fools’ day from all of us at The Smoking Cuban!
