If Kristaps Porzingis ever hits the trade market and Dallas came calling, what would a package look like for the Mavericks?

The New York Knicks are a soap opera and Kristaps Porzingis doesn’t seem too happy about it.

When the drama-filled season came to an end, exit interviews came and a certain face of the team wasn’t around for interviews.

"“Kristaps Porzingis skipped exit meetings with New York Knicks management due to frustration over what he perceives as the dysfunction and drama surrounding the organization, team sources told ESPN.com.” –According to Ian Begley of ESPN."

Yahoo Sports added to the situation by reporting that “Porzingis is planning a long trip back to Latvia that may not include a return to New York until closer to the start of training camp.”

What a situation to be in if you are the New York Knicks. Carmelo Anthony has likely played his last game in a Knicks jersey and your future superstar is beyond unhappy with the direction of the team.

But, of course, Phil Jackson could not stop there.

Now, let me first say that the likelihood of New York trading Porzingis is very unlikely. Also, if they ever did explore trading Porzingis, the suiters would be lined up at the door with better offers than what the Mavericks could offer.

But let’s have some fun and entertain the thought.

Porzingis is still on his rookie contract where he is slated to make $4.5 million next season with a team option for the 2018-19 season at $5.6 million. Then you get into all of the extension and long-term contract talks.

If I am running the Knicks, there are three things I want if I am trading a young star in the making. I want a rising young player, a good draft pick(s) and cap relief moving forward. For that case, I am trying to attach Joakim Noah to any deal and make that a price for getting Porzingis.

So hypothetically, would a package of Wesley Matthews, Seth Curry, and the 9th overall pick for Kristaps Porzingis and Joakim Noah get the job done?

New York would have the 7th and 9th picks in the upcoming draft. Seth Curry would be their rising young player in the deal and Wesley Matthews would be their veteran leader or they could flip him for younger pieces. Plus, they would get off the remaining three years of Noah’s $72 million deal.

For Dallas, you re-sign Nerlens Noel to pair with Kristaps Porzingis and Harrison Barnes moving forward. In trading Matthews and Curry, you have two obvious holes in your back court, but for the price of Porzingis, it might be worth it.

In this situation, you could also hypothetically let Noel walk and try to sign a guard in free agency with that money.

Another scenario would be if Dallas landed a top three pick in the NBA Draft. In that case, Dallas might be able to not take on Joakim Noah or give up Wesley Matthews in the deal.

Ideally, the following deal would be the scenario or package that I would be willing to do if I was Dallas.

It would be built around my original idea with Curry and Matthews going out and Porzingis and Noah coming in. But, instead of Dallas’ 2017 first round pick, I would offer the 2018 and 2020 first round picks instead.

This would allow Dallas to then draft a young guard this summer to pair with Porzingis, Noel, and Barnes moving forward.

Porzingis will most likely never hit the market and the chances of him landing in Dallas are slim, but it’s always fun to talk about as fans right?
