The Dallas Mavericks continue making strides towards a final roster everyday. Much like last year, the Mavericks have decided to do part of that by signing multiple players in hopes that the top 15 will find their spot on the team.

Last year, players like Maurice Ndour, Salah Mejri, Jarrid Famous, and Brandon Ashley all found partial contracts with the Mavs to fight for a roster spot. Although Mejri was the only one successfully outdueling someone else leading up to the season, it is still an exciting approach to roster building that Dallas has taken on.

This year, the Mavericks appear to be doing a very similar thing with both guaranteed and non-guaranteed contracts being offered to many rookies including Dorian Finney-Smith, Jonathan Gibson, A.J. Hammons, and now former BYU Cougar, Kyle Collinsworth.

It has been no secret from the day he agreed to play with the Mavs summer league that I have been all in on Collinsworth. A stand-up guy with the game and athleticism to back it up is always a good addition to your roster, no matter what the circumstance.

Collinsworth definitely did struggle finding his game during the Summer league. His play lacked and he looked timid going up against all these guys fighting for roster spots across the league. This was a strange sight for those of us who watched him play in his college career— fearless against any opponent.

That fearlessness is bound to find its way onto the court again before long and the coaches will get a real good look at what he can bring to the court. His tenacity and court sense will be a welcome sight but it will take more than that to make the team.

Unless Collinsworth finds a shooting stroke that has been hidden for many years, expect to see him suiting up for the Texas Legends on a nightly basis this coming season. That should definitely be viewed as a win for the former Brigham Young University star and a low risk gamble for the Mavericks.

Congratulations to Kyle Collinsworth on finding a home with the Dallas Mavericks. Myself and the rest of the MFFLs welcome Collinsworth to the wonderful organization that has been put together and are excited to see what he is capable of this year.
