Reunion in store for Mavericks, Brandan Wright?

It was clear that adding Rajon Rondo wasn’t the only problem with that trade last season for the Mavericks – losing Brandan Wright hurt just as much.

After that deal the Mavericks tried just about everyone they could to replace him as backup center but to no avail.

Greg Smith, Dwight Powell, Bernard James, and Amar’e Stoudemire just couldn’t replicate the type of impact Wright had, with his high-flying finishes in the pick-and-roll and weakside rim protection.

But could a reunion take place this summer?

According to Dallas sports expert Mike Fisher there’s mutual interest between the two parties:

"The Mavs have phoned Brandan Wright. Kinda. And Brandan Wright has phoned the Mavs. Kinda.“We’ve been playing phone tag,” Wright tells me from his Tennessee home in the early-morning hours as July 1 free agency opens. “But we’re trying to actually make contact!”Wright is another of the ex-Mavs who gets thought of as “family” by many inside the AAC. He’s coming off a deal paying him $5 mil after having been swapped out of Dallas to Boston for Rondo, and then landing in Phoenix. The Suns express a desire to keep him. A half-dozen other teams have also checked in, he says. But a Mavs reunion? That might be special for all parties … even though it’s going to take some waiting as the Mavs prioritize their big fish."

Dallas is still looking for that backup big, no matter who starts for them in the middle. A second go-around with Brandan Wright wouldn’t be anything to complain about.
