Dallas Mavericks Not Retiring Derek Harper’s Jersey

Earlier in the season, Mark Cuban announced that the Mavericks were planning on retiring Derek Harper’s number 12 jersey this season.

Looks like that won’t be happening this season at the least.

There has been no immediate information regarding why the change of plans, but it’s expected to still happen at some point.

After being selected 11th overall in the 1984 draft, Harper played 11+ seasons (2 stints) with the Mavericks. Harper averaged 16.2 points and 6.6 assists as a Maverick.

Harper would have joined Rolando Blackman (22) and Brad Davis (15) as the only retired Mavericks’ jerseys.

Harper currently joins Mark Followill and Jeff Wade on the Mavericks broadcast team.
