The Dallas Mavericks signed Theo Pinson to a ten-day contract in Dec. 2021 as they were dealing with a COVID outbreak. They needed healthy bodies, but nobody expected Pinson to stick. The Mavs had a full roster and had made the playoffs two straight years. Pinson was in his fourth NBA season and on his third different team.

The 6’5 wing defied the odds with his presence in the locker room and on the bench. Pinson was the perfect teammate and head coach Jason Kidd even called him the team’s MVP in February. The 26-year-old was on a two-way deal last season, so he was ineligible to play in the postseason, but he went to every game and made an impact from the bench.

Pinson started his own podcast with co-host A.J. Richardson, and the first episode dropped on Aug. 2. It is called Run Your Race, and the duo talked about their journeys to where they are now. Here is a look at how Pinson dealt with being the number one player in the country in high school.

Pinson started the episode by thanking Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks for re-signing him this summer. The 6’5 wing will be back in Dallas next season, and fans can expect him to keep the team hyped up.

In the episode, Pinson discusses being named the number one player in the country at 14 years old, and how he reacted to it. Here is a quote from Pinson during the episode.

"I’ll be the first one to tell you, I could not handle it. From that day I became number one in the nation until now, I understood when you have that target on your back, you are getting hunted now, so it is not just handed to you."

Pinson talked about enjoying the work, but how he could not relax for one second because everyone was going at him. He talked in-depth about dealing with the pressure that comes with being ranked number one too.

The 26-year-old told a story about being cut from the USA Under-16 National Team, and how that motivated him to take his game to another level. It is a must-listen episode for anybody looking to learn about Theo Pinson and that is looking for advice on how to deal with setbacks.

Dallas Mavericks fans are going to see and hear Theo Pinson plenty this season, and now they can enjoy his podcast. Pinson is hungry to earn more playing time in his second year in Dallas, and fans should stay tuned to see if he can make it happen.
