1. Minnesota Timberwolves

One final team the Mavericks could beat in a first-round matchup is the Minnesota Timberwolves. The young group has performed well this season. They are tied with the Denver Nuggets for first in the Western Conference.

They are a young team with plenty of depth and size. Minnesota owns Dallas on paper, as they own the head-to-head matchup with a 3-1 record. In their most recent performance against the Mavs, the Timberwolves defeated Dallas by 34 points. Both Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic did not play.

However, things could be different this time around. Doncic and Irving are both healthy and playing at a high level. Second, the team had yet to trade for big men Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington. Look back at both team's matchup on January 7. Dallas won the game by seven points, as Doncic and Irving combined for 69 points.

Dallas' improved defense and diverse shot selection would be a headache for Minnesota. If the Mavs could stop the T-Wolves from scoring inside, then it's possible they could very likely pull the upset.

With the playoffs in sight, Dallas will have to keep winning games if they hope to secure an opponent in the first round and avoid the play-in tournament altogether.

What are the chances one of the teams mentioned above could their opponent in the playoffs?

For all the latest on Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the Dallas Mavericks this season, stay tuned.
