The Dallas Mavericks are preparing to face the Phoenix Suns in the second round of the playoffs, but they would not be there without Jalen Brunson. The 6’1 guard led his team to two victories as superstar Luka Doncic recovered from a calf strain, including a 41-point performance in Game 2. Brunson made history and a whole lot of money in the series against the Jazz.

He is an unrestricted free agent this offseason because the Mavs failed to put a team option in his rookie contract. JB will have plenty of suitors, and he can choose any team. There are plenty of questions about Brunson’s free agency, and the odds the Mavericks lose the 25-year-old without getting any compensation in return.

Fans may not have to worry about it, though. The Athletic’s Tim Cato joined Jake Fischer on his Please Don’t Aggregate This podcast where they discussed Brunson free agency and what to expect moving forward.

Rumors: Dallas Mavericks confident they’ll be able to re-sign Jalen Brunson

Brunson’s free agency was the primary topic of conversation during the chat between Cato and Fischer. They discussed the potential suitors, trades, and more. Cato made it clear Dallas believes they will be able to re-sign Brunson to a long-term deal this summer.

"My understanding of how the Mavericks feel is that when I ask people about it, they are confident that they’re going to retain him. There really doesn’t seem to be a lot of doubt."

Cato continued by saying the organization feels assured they will be able to retain him, and Brunson wants to stay in part because he enjoys playing with Luka Doncic. The Athletic scribe even went as far as to say, “if the money is even, I’m almost certain that he is coming back to Dallas” about JB’s free agency this summer.

The two both believed that Jalen Brunson will make north of $100 million in his next contract. Dallas is going to have to head deep into the luxury tax if they want to keep JB. The New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons will both be bidding for the 6’1 guard along with others. Where will Brunson end up?

The Dallas Mavericks believe they will get a deal done, but will they? It comes down to what Jalen Brunson wants as an unrestricted free agent, so fans will have to stay tuned to find out.
