Ranking every Dallas Mavericks player by trade value ahead of 2024-25 season
By Noah Weber
14. Dwight Powell
Dwight Powell was speculatively listed as someone who could get traded by the Dallas Mavericks this season if his play doesn't improve from what we saw last season, and although his role was the smallest it had been last year, his play still needs to improve.
Last season, Powell averaged 3.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game while playing just over 13 minutes per game. Powell went from being the starting center the season before to being the third-string big by the end of the year, and his tradeable contract combined with his leadership abilities could make him someone that a team wants to pursue on the trade market.
Powell has been the ultimate teammate ever since arriving in Dallas, and his $4 million annually isn't bad value considering that he has shown flashes that he can be a good backup big man over the course of his career.
Powell is entering next season following a great performance in the Olympics which included him breaking the field-goal-percentage record, and he must provide some value in his limited minutes for Dallas next season.
He isn't going to be playing big minutes on a nightly basis, but he has to be ready to provide a spark off the bench when called upon. Dereck Lively II missed significant time last season, and if that happens again, Powell has to be ready to enter the rotation.
Powell doesn't seem to be someone who teams across the league would be pursuing a trade hard for, but he can be a good big off the bench when fully engaged and in the right role.
