The Dallas Mavericks will be without reserve guard Trey Burke as they host the Los Angeles Lakers on March 29. Burke entered the health and safety protocols on Tuesday afternoon, and he became the second player in the last four days to be added to the list. Fans were fearing the worst with the playoffs starting in less than three weeks.

Head coach Jason Kidd let fans know before the game that he missed his testing window for the day as an unvaccinated player and is forced to sit out. This is the fourth time Burke has entered the protocols, including three for missing his testing window.

Coach Kidd was not worried about Burke moving forward. He should be able to join the team in Cleveland and play in Wednesday night’s game against the Cavaliers. The Mavs will need Burke as Spencer Dinwiddie is likely to sit on the second night of a back-to-back to protect his surgically repaired knee.

Trey Burke added to health and safety protocols: out versus Lakers

Fans were fearing the worst when the news broke on Tuesday afternoon. Putting two players in the health and safety protocols in less than one week could lead to a team-wide outbreak like the Mavericks fought through in December. The Mavs are already without Sterling Brown, but Burke should be back in their next game.

Los Angeles will be shorthanded on Tuesday night as both LeBron James and Anthony Davis will miss the contest with injuries. Both teams need to win as the Western Conference standings are tight. The Mavs can move within one game of third with a victory as Luka Doncic, Jalen Brunson, and Spencer Dinwiddie handle the guard minutes with Burke out.

Fans will be watching the news closely until Sterling Brown returns to the floor. The Dallas Mavericks cannot afford to have multiple players join the health and safety protocols with the postseason just around the corner. Stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
